Travel in Style

January 27, 2011

Just came across this interesting post on Apartment Therapy that talks a bit about the history of the travel trunk, particularly by Louis Vuitton. Although these heavy duty pieces of luggage were created for completely practical purposes, they are now often used strictly as home decor.

Would you use a vintage Louis Vuitton trunk as a coffee table? Here are a couple to ponder:

The Bucket List

September 7, 2010

Here’s Halle Berry (left) and Kate Bosworth carrying bucket bags, a silhouette I think we’ll be hearing much more from in the coming season. Halle’s is a Cleobella “Kaya” bucket tote, while Kate is toting Alexander Wang‘s fabulous studded Diego in suede. This shape is particularly good for those of you who have a lot of essentials because the expandable shape allows for a lot of storage when you’re on the go.

If you like the look of the bucket bag, definitely check out our collection of Louis Vuitton NOE bags. Cinched at the top with a drawstring and available in bold colors as well as the classic monogram, it’s a classic that will fit well with the upcoming trends.

Friday Favorites: Lovely Leopard

August 13, 2010

Animal prints may be hot this season, but it’s leopard that’s about to really boil over. Showing up everywhere on the runways (including Dries Van Noten, above left, and Louis Vuitton, right), the cool thing about this year’s leopard is how many different ways you can wear it. Rather than just sticking to the most realistic skin, designers are changing up the color, playing with proportion, and printing it on a wide variety of materials.

Here are our leopard Friday Favorites:

DEREK LAM Pony Hair Leopard Spotted Clutch. Totally chic, and now priced under $500.

JIMMY CHOO Patent Leather Leopard Riki. Take a walk on the wild side with this purple tote.

MANOLO BLAHNIK Leopard Suede Heels sz 39. Did someone say metallic suede leopard? So very sexy.

Monogram Madness

August 12, 2010

Sometimes all you want is a classic, and that’s why we spent some time collecting Louis Vuitton monogram bags in all shapes and sizes. We amassed quite a collection, and now we’re offering them to you in today’s First Finds.

We have  your basic Speedys, Almas and Keepalls, but we also have limited edition Malletier Messengers, Papillons and Reporters.

The best part about these bags is that they’re pre-owned, so they’re already broken in. That means it’ll look like you’ve owned the bags forever. These are priced to move, so click through and get yours now!

Kanye’s Vintage Hermes

August 10, 2010

Love him or hate him, Kanye West definitely has strong opinions about style. He’s collaborated with Louis Vuitton on a shoe line, has an apartment full of modern art that has been featured in many magazines, and even loves to talk about his accessories on his Twitter account. His most recent post? The worn leather tote above, complete with a caption reading: “Vintage Hermes travel bags are tight yo!!!

While everyone might not get the appeal of a bag with obvious years under its belt, there’s something about the aged patina of good leather that feels like luxury. Kanye’s bag, while rough around the edges, is still fully functional and has a lot more character than somethings straight out of the workshop. Plus, I love the initials on the front–doesn’t it make you wonder who used to own the bag and where it’s been?

Want to check out Portero’s pre-owned Hermes? Shop here, and know that every one of these pieces are made so well that you can pass them down to the next generation!

Totally Two-tone

July 29, 2010

Leighton Meester looks like the all-American girl while filming Gossip Girl in NYC yesterday. While I really like her cute red, white and blue outfit (oh those shoes!), I’m particularly taken with her navy and white oversized handbag. I love the stark two-tone color scheme and the structured shape.

There’s something pleasingly preppy about this look, and I have a few similar favorites that I’d love to carry around this summer:

First and foremost, this Hermes toile and barenia leather Birkin is at the top of my list. Impossibly chic and absolutely perfect for the warmer months. While it’s not as stark, I also like the similar lines of this Louis Vuitton canvas and leather Sac de Nuit. Want a pop of color? Try this generously sized Lambertson Truex toile and red leather single flap tote.

Le Fabuleux

July 23, 2010

It’s another Louis Vuitton for Jessica Simpson! Earlier this week we took a look at her collection of logo luggage, and now she’s rocking a gold Le Fabuleux in Los Angeles. This relatively understated bag is a good look for her–it doesn’t need to scream LV at the world.

I’m a big fan of the Le Fabuleux, and I particularly like our version in white suhali leather. This is a great little summer bag; I like the structured silhouette paired with the gold studs. It’s a little bit business and a little bit rock’n’roll.

Festival Chic

June 29, 2010

I had the chance to attend the Coachella festival just outside of Palm Springs earlier this year, and it was definitely a fantastic place for people-watching. The London version–Glastonbury–was this past weekend and it looks like the same grungy/boho/hipster look was again in full effect. Besides the ubiquitous jean short-shorts, celebs like Emma Watson (left) and Sienna Miller were spotted in multiple bracelets, long-strapped bags (like Emma’s LV) and fabulous belts.

Get a similar funky festival look with some of my favorites:

Carolina Bucci 18-karat gold and black silk bracelet

Gianni Versace Medusa Medallion belt

Friday Eye Candy: Marc Jacobs

September 25, 2009

Marc Jacobs runway

I pulled this image from the recent Marc Jacobs runway show as soon as I saw it–I’m drawn to it in a number of inexplicable ways. Maybe it’s the ballerina vibe (I myself wore point shoes until age 16), maybe it’s the sketch-like quality derived from the wispy black stitching, or maybe it’s just the beautiful trompe l’oeil that confuses your brain a bit.

You can get a similar look in real life by choosing a bag with topstitching that really accentuates a pattern. This Chanel Tan Lambskin Big Stitch Quilted Large ZipTote is a perfect example of using dark thread on a light leather to create visual interest.

Another good choice would be this Louis Vuitton Limited Edition Olympe Cirrus Show Bag. While it doesn’t use a black accent, the stitching is over cloudy lambskin in such a way that the logo feels more like a beautiful pattern than a corporate sign.
